POINT GREY RESIDENCE (Old House Lives On)
Vancouver, BC, 1997-98
"SOMETHING OLD SOMETHING NEW"
~ Rob Sieniuc
The 1918 house first became part of the current owner's family history when their grandparents bought the home in the erly 1920's. Although the original house was lacking in modern conveniences, it's value to the current family was that it represented not only part of their own past, but part of the history of the Point Grey neighbourhood. A high priority was placed on preserving as much of the house as possible, blending the updates with the old, and maximizing the views towards the downtown and English Bay.
In so doing, the "Old House Lives On", with a lower impact on the environment than if it had been torn down and replaced with a new home on the site.
