40+ YEARS ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN: Green Architecture, Eco Communities & Green Resorts

For over four decades, Broadway Architects (Rob Sieniuc + Associates) and Rob's predecessor firms have worked closely with communities, resorts and governments to create green architecture and regenerative eco master planning guidelines for environmentally responsive development.

Environmental Design, Green Architecture, Eco Community & Resort Planning
Rob Sieniuc and his interdisciplinary team have created many sustainable based Eco Community and Resort Master Concept Plans (complete with architectural and environmental guidelines) and green buildings for resorts, communities and governments — to sensitively shape growth. Our current work with Yukon Hot Springs Resort (formerly Takhini Hot Springs) is based on our "ECOlibrium" design philosphy which is deeply rooted in ecology and community.

Our work for Seabird Island and Manning Park Resort was acknowledged for its stewardship approach. The resort is recognized as a “model” for future development in Provincial Parks. Manning Park Resort's Loon Lagoon Centre is one of BC's early geo thermally heated Recreation Centres. It is also one of the first commercial buildings in British Columbia to incorporate locally harvested “pine beetle” impacted wood.

For Yukon Hot Springs Resort (the former Takhini Hot Springs), we d
eveloped a sustainable concept plan that embraces architecture, energy conservation and the natural environment to transform an existing hot spring facility into a vibrant destination eco village green community resort and wellness centre. The Yukon Hot Springs Resort recognizes (in both design and services) that human health is interconnected with environmental health. The project is Canada's most energy-efficient, sustainable green resort.  Its design is based on ECOlibirum principals. It employs true geo-thermal heating and other energy efficient and renewable design strategies including PVC collectors, grey water separation, water conservation, heat recovery, recycling and supergreen envelopes with R120 roof insulation, R50-60 double walls, R40 slab and perimeter insulation and triple and quadruple high performance windows.

The Seabird Island Sustainable Community Demonstration Project,, sponsored by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, and Natural Resources Canada was the first of its kind in Canada. It illustrates our continued dedication to improved housing. The film "In A Sacred Way We Build", produced by Omni Productions, documents the extraordinary community planning, integrated design and green building processes employed at Seabird Island.  Broadway Architects have worked on many innovative energy efficient projects in Canada’s North, where the effects of global warming and high energy prices are pronounced. Several of these projects including a Master Concept Plan for an Eco-Village Hot Spring Resort (Yukon Hot Springs Resort), a Government House administration facility, a Cultural Heritage Centre, a Healing Centre, a Daycare Centre and an ecologically based Community Plan for the expansion of an existing community, employ district energy & utility sharing systems including geo-exchange, passive solar and other sustainable based design strategies.
