STRATHCONA PARK PLACE (Hilltop)

LOGO HILL 110 58Calgary, Alberta, 1982-83 (with New Street Group)

"If you don't scale THE HILL,
you can't see the plain."
                 ~  Old Proverb

Situated on a prominent hilltop in the Strathcona community, the Strathcona Park Place Community Centre has sweeping views of the City of Calgary skyline, the foothills and the Rocky Mountains beyond.

The Centre's two major functions are a recreation-banquet hall, and a community lounge. A double volume foyer offers the public a clear view of the internal functions and external relationships, while providing management with effective surveillance and security control. The lower level accommodates service and  change facilities for the associated community rink.

The building entrance (on the upper side of the slope) has a low scale residential quality. The Strathcona Park Community Centre's form with articulated roofs and gables has been designed to integrate with the adjacent residential neighbourhood. (J Long, R Sieniuc, R Sordi)
